A very fine example of a16th Century hand-colored map of Europe by famed Cartographer and explorer, Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598). "Abraham Ortelius (Abraham Ortels) (April 14, 1527 – June 28, 1598) was a Flemish cartographer and geographer, generally recognized as the creator of the first modern atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theater of the World). He is also believed to be the first person to imagine that the continents were joined together before drifting to their present positions." Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abraham_Ortelius
