Intracranial hypertension is a rare neurological condition which can cause blindness, hearing loss, chronic headaches, neck and back pain, and other chronic conditions. Raising awareness could help to ensure sufferers are correctly diagnosed in time to prevent permanent vision loss or other disability. Intracranial hypertension is raised fluid pressure around the brain. When medication fails to bring this pressure down surgery is sometimes necessary to reduce the cerebrospinal fluid pressure and prevent damage to the sufferers vision and hearing. Either an LP or VP shunt is fitted to drain the fluid and ease the pressure. This design is made up of a high pressure warning and two tone awareness ribbon on the frone, and a pressure gage and dial on the reverse. The pressure gage represents the lumbar punctures used to measure CSF pressure, and the dial represents the programmable valve often fitted with an LP shunt.
