Head of Christ (1521) by Antonio Allegri Correggio Head of Christ is from a panel by the Italian Renaissance painter Correggio, dated 1521 It depicts the head of Christ, wearing the crown of thorns. Known as just Correggio, was the foremost painter of the Parma school of the High Italian Renaissance, was responsible for some of the most vigorous and sensuous works of the sixteenth century. Correggio is chiefly famous for the dome frescoes in S. Giovanni Evangelista and the Cathedral of Parma, and major altarpieces. His late works influenced the style of many Baroque and Rococo artists.
