Poldark Country Mine Ruins Cornwall England This dramatic photograph is of one of the old engine house mine buildings of Wheal Coates mine on the North Cornwall coast. The ruins of Wheal Coates overlook the beach at Chapel Porth on the beautiful North coast of Cornwall between St. Agnes and Portreath. Mining has been carried out along this coast since the Middle Ages and Wheal Coates has existed since 1692. The engine houses still standing are from the mine worked from 1872 until it was abandoned in 1914. Used as a location for filming the Poldark series. Photograph by Poldark Country
