South Wheal Frances Tin Mine Cornwall England The vast, lonely ruins of South Wheal Frances mine lie in Carn Brea Parish on the Great Flat Lode. There have been mine workings in this area since around 1720 but the main business of this mine dates to the 1830s and later. Some of the buildings still standing are the Pumping Engine House and the Winding Engine House for Pascoe’s Shaft; and the remains of the Ore Bin and Crusher for Marriott’s Shaft.
