The tiny cove and harbor of Port Quin was used extensively in the filming of the original series of Poldark in the 1970s. It was transformed into Sawle Village and was also the location of the wrecking scene Doyden Castle above the cove was used as Dwight Enys’ house and one of the cottages shown here was used for filming Andrew Blamey’s house. A sad legend surrounds Port Quin in that it is believed that the hamlet was abandoned after a terrible storm when all the menfolk who were out in their boats fishing perished in one night.
