Niagara Falls (Horseshoe Falls) (Rembrandt Peale) Playing Cards
This design features a painting by the American artist Rembrandt Peale (1778–1860); his style was heavily influenced by French Neoclassicism after a stay in Paris in his early thirties. The painting shows Horseshoe Falls, also known as the Canadian Falls, which is the largest of the three waterfalls that collectively form Niagara Falls on the Niagara River along the Canada–United States border. In fact, around 90% of the Niagara River (excluding modern diversions for hydropower generation) flows over Horseshoe Falls, while the remaining 10% flows over the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. Horseshoe Falls is located between Table Rock in the Canadian province of Ontario and Terrapin Point on Goat Island in the US state of New York. The Niagara River drains Lake Erie into Lake Ontario, and Niagara Falls, taken as a whole, has the highest flow rate of any waterfall in North America.
