This design features a painting by Rosa Bonheur (1822–1899), who was a French artist best known as a painter of animals. It shows two Shetland ponies being led through a misty landscape in the Scottish Highlands by a ghillie wearing traditional dress. A ghillie (or gillie) is an ancient Gaelic term for a person who acts as an attendant on a fishing or hunting expedition in the Highlands of Scotland. The ghillie is wearing a kilt with sporran, a Balmoral bonnet (dark green beret) and red tartan socks. The Shetland ponies are different shades of dark brown.
