This design features a painting by the Irish artist John Lavery (1856–1941). It depicts two girls playing chess. They are sitting on the floor with a chess board between them. Their surroundings are very elegant and they are clearly in a grand house owned by members of the upper class. The girls are focusing intently on the game, thinking about their next move. Their abilites at chess appear to be evenly matched. The original artwork was painted by John Lavery in 1929.
