- from our Affiliates
This design features a painting by the Dutch artist Carel Fabritius (1622–1654), who was a pupil of Rembrandt. It shows Hagar, a female character from the Book of Genesis in the Old Testament of the Christian Bible. She is being met by an angel from heaven, who is guiding her and providing her with the knowledge that she is destined to give birth to a child, who is Ishmael, the first son of Abraham. The angel is placing a hand gently on Hagar's head to comfort her as she cowers. There is a halo of spirituality radiating from the angel's head and it has large wings on its back. The original artwork was painted by Carel Fabritius in 1645.
