Chicago Worlds Fair Columbian Exposition Watch Affiliate icon

This design features artwork by the American impressionist painter Theodore Robinson (1852–1896). It shows a view of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair (also known as the World's Columbian Exposition), which was held to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the New World in 1492. The exposition was an influential social and cultural event and had a profound effect on American architecture, the arts and American industrial optimism, as well as Chicago's image. The centerpiece of the Fair, held in Jackson Park, was a large water pool representing the voyage Columbus took to the New World.
