The Feast of the Gods by Giovanni Bellini Canvas Print Affiliate icon

This design features an oil painting by the Renaissance Italian artist Giovanni Bellini (circa 1430–1516), with substantial additions to the artwork made by Titian (circa 1490–1576) and Dosso Dossi (circa 1489–1542). It is one of a cycle of paintings on mythological subjects produced for Alfonso I d'Este, the Duke of Ferrara, for his "camerino d'alabastro" [chamber of alabaster] in the Castello Estense, Ferrara, Italy. It is one of the few mythological pictures by the Venetian artist Giovanni Bellini. It shows the ancient Roman and Greek gods and goddesses enjoying a great feast at a festival. Some of the deities that can be seen in the painting include Mercury (with his caduceus and helmet), Silenus (with his donkey), Jupiter, Lotis, Priapus, Bacchus, Silvanus (or Faunus), Cybele, Pan, Neptune, Ceres, Apollo, a satyr and nymphs. The art was completed in 1514, and it was Giovanni Bellini's last major work. It is now in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, and it has been described as "one of the greatest Renaissance paintings in the United States".
