This design features a watercolor painting by Albrecht Dürer (1471–1528), who was an artist, printmaker and theorist of the German Renaissance. It is a portrait of a hare resting on its hind legs, as though it is about to leap up aggressively. Hares and jackrabbits are leporids belonging to the genus Lepus; hares are classified in the same family as rabbits. The animals have long ears and are naturally fast runners (they can run up to 50 MPH over short distances). The original painting was completed in 1502.
