Atomic Veterans were American military who were exposed to nuclear radiation due to nuclear testing, nuclear cleanup, or occupation of Japan after the atomic bombs. This forgotten group of veterans may have an increased likelihood of developing certain medical problems, such as thyroid cancer. Even the family members--spouse and children--are now recognized by the government as having increased risk of medical issues due to radiation exposure.
