This is NOAA's nautical chart number 11520. It is often referred to as a nautical chart or a nautical map. It is based on the original, traditional paper nautical chart. It covers a section of the North Atlantic Ocean, including portions of the South Carolina and North Carolina coasts. Coverage extends from Gull Island, just north of Cape Hatteras, North Carolina south to Stono Inlet, just below Charleston, South Carolina. The chart's scale is 1:432,720 at Lat. 34°N. Also, this chart provides references to supplemental charts for detailed coverage of selected areas. Color shading on the chart indicates various water depths and land elevations. Depth soundings are in fathoms. Also included on the chart are some of the aids and hazards to navigation in the chart's coverage area. This paper chart and others like it are being phased out by NOAA. Electronic charts for onboard navigation are replacing paper charts.
