The bark of this tree is so thin it resembles paper as it peels in horizontal strips. A member of the Betula papyrifera family, birch is also called Paper birch, Canoe birch and White birch. It is native the North America and is the state tree of New Hampshire and symbol of the province of Sasketchewan, Canada. Used by the native Indians who made canoes and implements from it, today it remains a food staple for moose, deer and hares, while its wood is used to makes boxes, popsicle sticks, furniture and flooring today.
