This image shows an Aldabra tortoise grazing. The Aldabra tortoise is the largest animal on the Aldabra Island atoll and the main consumer of vegetation. These tortoises can noticeably alter their habitat during their search for food. Aldabra tortoises are able to go without food or water for long periods. They are grazers and browsers, feeding mainly on grasses and woody plants. | "Smithsonian" and the Smithsonian logo are registered trademarks owned by Smithsonian Institution.
