I have loved the colour Green for as long as I can remember. Also, being somehow attuned to details and small things, ferns and mosses always spoke to me in a particular way. „Osmélian“ is actually a reflection of this. This very particular name is based on the old French term „osmonde“ for fern and the name of that enchanted forest in Brittany, „Brocéliande“, all wrapt into a male form as Osmélian. But ferns also have a number of cultural meanings, which I have found myself drawn to. In New Zealand, for example, there has been a long tradition of carving „Koru“ from jade. These jewellery items resemble the spiralling sprouts of ferns, and, by analogy, the force of Life or Nature. I have been a fan of spirals for a long time. As symbols, I think, they are the epitome of symbols, the Triskels of neolithic times in Europe as well as the double-helixes of cell architecture in modern times. Ferns have been described as „witches´ herbs“, thus alluding to their somewhat mysterious and unobtrusive nature growing as undergrowth in the nebulous and remote realms of forests. This design tries to capture ferns´ fragile delicacy and mystery, as well as the spiralling life-force embodied. Please remember that, at Zazzle, you can place the designs on other products as well; this means that this particular product is just an example of how this design could be displayed.
