Charles (CM) Russell, the “cowboy artist”, created more than 2,000 paintings of cowboys, Indians, and landscapes set in the Western United States. He lived and worked among the cowboys and the Blood Indian tribe in his younger years. This image is called “Toll Collectors” and depicts an Indian band demanding payment from a trail boss for the right to allow a herd of cattle to cross their territory.
