Paul Gauguins Martinique Landscape 1887 Poster Affiliate icon

A classic artwork that has passed into the public domain and makes wonderful gifts and other products. Prior to his more well known Polynesian period, Gauguin spent time in Martinique where he hoped to remain prior to a bout of poor health. His desire for a tropical getaway was untempered, and he moved to Tahiti in the early 1890's and stayed there for most of his remaining life. Although he was frustrated with his lack of recognition and commercial success during his life, his fame (as with a lot of artists) started to grow almost immediately after he died. Known for his paintings of Tahiti and Polynesia, Gauguin was one of the leading Post-Impressionist painters. His style evolved over the years, leading from his beginnings in the more traditional Impressionist style to his later use of cloisonnism, in which dark or bold lines delineate areas of compartmentalized singe colors. All of our products are made with large scale images that have been carefully edited to provide the best resolution, color and detail possible.
