Hygieia (c. 1901) by Gustav Klimt is a vintage Victorian Era Symbolism painting featuring the Greek goddess of hygiene, health, cleanliness, and sanitation along with the Aesculapian snake around her arm and the cup of Lethe in her hand. Hygieia is part of one of three paintings known as “The Faculty Paintings,” which were intended to symbolize Medicine, Philosophy, and Jurisprudence. She is in the lower portion of the "Medicine" painting. About the artist: Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) was an Austrian Symbolist painter and one of the most prominent members of the Vienna Art Nouveau movement.
