Islay Tilco a Macaw and Love Birds by Landseer Postcard Affiliate icon

Islay, Tilco, a Macaw and Two Love Birds (1839) by Sir Edwin Henry Landseer is a vintage Victorian Era fine art animal portrait painting. The animals featured are pets owned by the British Royal family. This painting was commissioned by Queen Victoria who loved Islay (a terrier puppy dog) very much; she taught him to beg which he became famous for as seen in this Landseer painting. About the artist: Sir Edwin Henry Landseer (1802-1873) was an English painter well known for his paintings of animals. Landseer's popularity in Victorian Britain was considerable. He was widely regarded as one of the foremost animal painters of his time, and reproductions of his works were commonly found in middle-class homes. Yet his appeal crossed class boundaries, for Landseer was quite popular with the British aristocracy as well.
