Sparrows and Camellia in Snow (early 18030s) by artist: Andō Hiroshige is a vintage Japanese fine art wood block painting. Asian art featuring birds, sparrows with camellia flowers covered in snow during the winter. This nature image originally came from a woodblock print. About the artist: Utagawa Hiroshige (歌川広重) (aka Andō) (1797-1858) was a Japanese ukiyo-e artist, one of the last great artists in that tradition. He was a member of the Utagawa school which comprised dozens of artists, and stood at the forefront of 19th century woodblock prints. Hiroshige is especially noted for using unusual vantage points, seasonal allusions, and striking colors. He adapted Western principles of perspective and receding space to his own works in order to achieve a sense of realistic depth.
