The Danaides (1903) by JW Waterhouse is a vintage Victorian Pre-Raphaelite fine art portrait painting. A portraiture of three sisters (the daughters of Danaus, King of Argos) who are condemned to Hades through eternity to pour water into a vessel with holes in the bottom. They were commanded to murder their husbands on their wedding night; all but one obeyed, and all were punished. About the artist: John William Waterhouse (1849-1917) was an English Preraphaelite painter most famous for his paintings of female characters from ancient Greek mythology and literature.
