Madonna of the Magnificat (1481) by Sandro Botticelli is a vintage Renaissance fine art religious portrait painting. The Virgin Mary Magdalene crowned by two angels and the Child Jesus Christ has a hand on a pomegranate, symbol of the Resurrection. The Magnificat (also known as the Song of Mary or the Canticle of Mary) is a canticle frequently sung (or spoken) liturgically in Christian church services. It is one of the eight most ancient Christian hymns and perhaps the earliest Marian hymn. About the artist: Sandro Botticelli (1445–1510) was an Italian painter of the Florentine school during the Early Renaissance.
