Situated at the meeting place of three Highland Lochs: Loch Duich, Loch Long and Loch Alsh, Eilean Donan Castle was built in the 13th century and became the stronghold of the MacKenzie Clan and their allies, Clan MacRae. The name: Eilean Donan Castle translates from the Gaelic as Island Donan Castle. A restoration in the early 1900s included construction of the Arched Bridge, giving easier access to the small tidal island location in Dornie, Scotland.
