Ham and eggs on an amber glass plate - delicious Sunday brunch or breakfast, including smoked ham, two sunny side up eggs, slices of fresh English cucumber, chunks of cheddar cheese, golden brown home fries, a dollop of red ketchup, and whole wheat toast. It's seasoned with salt and black pepper, and the plate sits on a pale pink towel or piece of terrycloth. This is a colorful, fun, upbeat piece of pop art perfect for breakfast lovers or fans of avant garde, retro fifties and sixties, and contemporary art styles. This isn't the type of meal you see in the magazines, but a hearty breakfast for a working man or woman. No pretensions, just good honest satisfying food. I was in a very happy place when I made this meal and took these pictures, and put lots of love and positive energy into them both. I hope some of the good feelings vibrate out from this pic to help bring you joy! Art is about rousing emotion, and it's really beautiful when that emotion is happiness. Here's a bit about the artistic aspects of this piece: Pop art is a genre that takes elements of popular culture, or in common use, and elevates them to the status of art, as the lowly soup can. It also applies elements of repetition or standardization which reflect qualities of mass production and / or industrialization. Pop art is often misunderstood, but can be a lot of fun! I'm a big fan of the bold experimental artists who redefined the meaning of Art by looking at the simple, mundane or everyday in new ways; or using techniques which could be considered flaws, as in printing double images; or looking at the paint splat on the floor as art rather than the framed picture on the wall. There are a lot of different interpretations within the realm of Pop Art. Even some propaganda can be considered pop art in that it appropriates common imagery and beliefs and re-invents their meaning, and it's then consumed and re-created by the people. This artistic genre can involve food but isn't the same as food art. Pop art is down to earth, often amusing, frivolous or satirical, and social rather than cerebral in nature. This bright design makes a great gift for anyone with modern or trendy tastes, or someone who just likes ham and eggs. It's a cheerful image of something you might see every day. It reminds us how lucky we are to live in a place where we have such abundance. Photo by Canadian artist M Sylvia Chaume, Sunday April 26 2015. Thank you! :)
