This house had fallen into serious disrepair, and was recently demolished to make way for progress. Many old houses have met the same fate. Most domiciles were homes for factory employees and other blue collar workers, and therefore weren't built with the same sturdy but expensive materials as used in the homes of white collar managers and professionals such as the doctor or banker. Workers' houses were often built on sandy soil or insecure foundations. As urban decay sets in over years, decades, even a century, homes made of soft woods such as pine and cedar, tarpaper or other inexpensive materials slowly deteriorate and / or return to nature.
