This little black-capped chickadee gives you the eye, wishing you Happy Birdday (inside says "hope it's tweet!"). Cool blues, warm pink and purple tones set off these charming little birds, funny and cute for family or work friends, anyone who loves birds, bird humor or groaner puns; with original chickadee photos on front and bottom inside, pale pink accent color, and plenty of room to write your own message(s) as desired. Chickadees are social and smart, among the most intelligent of the small songbirds. A few chickadee facts: they're known for their warning call "chickadee-dee-dee" with the number of "dee's" corresponding to the amount of danger the bird senses. Besides that familiar song the chickadee has over thirty vocalizations: melodious whistles, trills and chirps. These tiny birds are only 4-5 inches on average and have almost no body fat, but they are tough and tenacious. A chickadee survives bitter cold Canadian winter nights by lowering the body temperature dramatically by up to twelve degrees C, inducing a state of torpor which is found in mammals but rare among birds, shared by some hummingbirds. Chickadees are very active, positive birds and if you are patient they'll soon become tame enough to take food from your hand. While they are particularly fond of sunflower seeds, their diet is omniverous and they eat other seeds, grubs and insects as well. Like squirrels, chickadees and their cousins the nutchatches are known to stash food. Their spatial memory is excellent and they remember most of their hiding places for about 28 days. The chickadee is also a strong totem animal or animal spirit guide, and brings protection, abundance and many happy blessings. Chickadee represents honesty as she always speaks the truth; this bird can warn you of danger in your path. Chickadees are also associated with strength in smallness, sociability, friends or work acquaintances, adaptability, memory and innate intelligence. Chickadees often hang out with birds of other species, such as nuthatches, sparrows, cardinals and blue jays. The chirpy models in this design are two of the friendly chickadees who visits our feeder regularly. Original nature photography design by M Sylvia Chaume, Canada.
