This is a realistic pre-Raphaelite literary painting by English artist John William Waterhouse painted in 1916. "I am half sick of shadows", said the Lady of Shallot who was forbidden to look directly at reality, but instead had to look at the world through a mirror and weave what she saw in a tapestry. She was forbidden to ever go outside. She had an unrequited love for the knight Sir Lancelot who was in a tower nearby.
