This beautiful place located between the Sestieri Dorsoduro and Santa Croce, despite being one of the most charming spots in Venice bears one of the most infamous names. 'Malcanton' (Bad Corner in Venetian) supposedly got its ugly name because it's very narrow and pedestrians risked falling in the water here during the dark hours. According to other accounts, people had to pay a tribute to pass freely and some of those who've refused were killed or robbed. Either way, this area is very fascinating.
