The OFI Care Center on the island of Borneo is a special place. We rescue orangutans of all ages and abilities. No orangutan is turned away. This photograph shows Kiki, a special needs female who will always be remembered by anyone who met her. Orangutan Foundation International was founded by Dr. Birute M. Galdikas, one of the three women chosen in the 1970s to study the great apes (along with Dian Fossey and Jane Goodall.) Dr. Galdikas is still actively involved in the conservation and rescue of this endangered species at the time that this card was published. her facility has been featured in the 2011 IMAX movie "Born To Be Wild" as well as in numerous documentaries with various wildlife conservationists. In July 2014, former American President Bill Clinton visited this site as well as Dr. Galdikas's Camp Leakey, as part of his tour to support. Sales of this card in the Krista Orangutan Zazzle gallery help to raise much needed funds to continue the work to save orangutans, the gentle red ape. Thank you to OFI volunteer and member, Mara, for her permission to use this photograph which makes a wonderful tribute to Kiki and all of the workers who cared for her.
