Current location of original work: Metropolitan Museum of Art, Manhattan, New York City, United States of America. Best known for his marine subjects, Winslow Homer was an American landscape painter and print-maker who was largely self-taught. Homer began his career working as a commercial illustrator but later took up oil painting; he also worked extensively in watercolor.
