An understated design featuring the Large Blue, an endangered butterfly. More information about the Large Blue butterfly: Britain’s rarest butterfly and a protected species. This Large Blue is now only found in southern England, with 85 per cent of the population supported at reserves in Somerset and Gloucestershire. It was reintroduced to the UK in the 1980s after it was declared extinct in 1979, due to habitat loss. Large Blues have curious life cycle. Caterpillars first feed on Wild Thyme before embedding themselves in red ant nests where they feed on ant grubs. Thanks to conservation efforts, the Large Blue is enjoying its highest population numbers in 80 years.
