Iris and Bamboo Poster
This painting was inspired by Jean's iris and bamboo that grows all around the garden in Umbria. Also of great inspiration were the Japanese woodblock printers, Hiroshige and Hokusai, and their beautiful iris prints. Still life, figurative paintings/ garden views, the design and pattern in bamboo, the multitude of colour combinations of iris. Jean's iconic red sun is seen through the blue and green bamboo. Even bamboo has different tones depending on the time of day as the sun rises and sets. It is a calming view, yet the painting still allows the eye to see into the distance beyond - an opening out into the horizon has a positive effect on the viewer - it gives the viewer space. Bamboo also represents resilience, flexibility and strength.
