This watercolor painting by JC Prida depicts the Portland Head Lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. In this painting, the beacon of the large white lighthouse stands as the highest point on a cliff. The tower is surrounded by white fencing and red and white outbuildings with the American flag raised from a flagpole in front of the lighthouse keepers' quarters. The foreground consists of yellow and green foliage and some blooming plants among the rocks of the bluff. The sky is clear dark blue with tinges of pink and the Gulf of Maine water seen beyond the bluff is calm. The original painting is 12x16 inches, watercolor on paper, by JC Prida, © December 2014. Portland Head Light was completed in 1791, and is the oldest lighthouse in the state of Maine.
