Arvidsjaur is the seat of Arvidsjaur Municipality in Norrbotten County, Sweden. Arvidsjaur is a centre for the European auto industry. During the winter months major auto-manufacturers perform arctic trials in the Arvidsjaur area. The town also supports tourism by offering snowmobile tours, trekking, skiing, fishing and dogsled rides. Arvidsjaur is inhabitated by ethnic Swedes and also by the Sami people ( aka Lapps or Lapplanders) who have lived in the area since ancient times. This area was important in the great 19th century Christian revival led by Swedish minister and missionary Petrus Laestadius. Arvidsjaur Church is quite beautiful.
