A refined man who spoke Latin, played the piano, and was educated in Dental medicine. He was diagnosed with TB and on doctor's orders headed west for a more healthful climate. There, with terminal illness looming, he drank, gambled, and developed a huge temper. He mastered gambling, guns, and the knife and drank heavily. At times packing guns in a shoulder holster and waist holster along with a large knife holstered on his hip. He faced down many angry men in saloons and on the streets of towns he traveled through. Later, some gunslingers tracked him down looking to upgrade their reputation at his expense. He dispatched them all with gun or knife. He befriended Wyatt Earp and his brothers and participated in the famous OK Corral shoot out. He remained Earp's friend to the end. Holliday stared death in the face many times without a hint of fear. They say he knew he was a dead man walking with TB, which made him extremely dangerous.
