A 1916 patent for a device that indicated load weight on oil derricks. It was great benefit to the drilling roustabouts and engineers if they knew the exact weight load of items on the early derricks. Patented by Howard Hughes Sr of HUGHES TOOL COMPANY of Houston, Texas. His heir Howard Hughes went on to fame and fortune in California.
