It's a trope as old as the civil war itself. That miserable puritanical Cromwell canceled Christmas. Well he bloody didn't. Parliament did, or at least the celebration we know might today but the religious celebration (you know celebration as in like, celebrating mass) was very much alive. I mean if you're into puritanical Christianty then canceling the main day of your messiah might be a bit much even for them. Rage on Cromwell as much as you like but let's blame him for things that were his fault eh?
