Portrait of a Mursi (or Mun) woman of Ethiopia's Omo Valley in the Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region. She is wearing a large lip plate, a colorful bead headdress, and has scarification encircling her breasts. Lip plates are a well known aspect of the Mursi women who wear large pottery or wooden discs, or ‘plates,' in their lower lips. The Mursi also have a long history of body painting, decorative scarring and piercing. Photo by Rod Waddington
