Civil War Map of Richmond, Virginia in 1863 with locations of Rebel prisons and camps, Forts, The Capitol, bridges and railroads. Belle Isle, an island of the James River, which is currently listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, is also depicted. It was used as a prisoner-of-war camp for Union soldiers during the American Civil War. Between 1862 and 1865, the island was home to about 30,000 POW's. By Robert Knox Sneden.
