A gorgeous print of Indian Summer Vermont, a painting by American painter Willard Leroy Metcalf (1858 –1925). Metcalf was born in Lowell, Massachusetts and became a prominent landscape painter. He is remembered for his New England landscapes, his connection with the Old Lyme Art Colony at Old Lyme, Connecticut and his influential years at the Cornish Art Colony. Metcalf studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and later at Académie Julian, Paris. He was an instructor at the Women's Art School, Cooper Union, New York, and at the Art Students League, New York. He became a member of the American Watercolor Society, New York in 1893. Generally associated with American Impressionism, Metcalf was among the Ten American Painters who in 1897 separated from the Society of American Artists.
