Lucy is a 12 year NASA mission to study 8 different asteroids in the orbit of the planet Jupiter. These asteroids are called Trojans and are clustered in two groups, one orbiting ahead of Jupiter and another group orbiting behind. These primordial bodies are expected to be blanketed in dark carbon dust and perhaps are rich in water and other substances. The mission was named from the fossilized human ancestor named Lucy, once though to be our earliest relative.
