The next generation successor to the Hubble Space Telescope, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope, is on station and producing its first usable full color images of the cosmos. These photos are truly amazing. This image is NGC3132, a planetary nebula informally known as the Southern Nebula, about 2,500 light years from Earth. In the coming years, JWST will produce incredible new images of planets, stars, nebulae, dust clouds, and galaxies to advance the science of astronomy.
