NASA’s JWST James Webb Space Telescope captures the birth of a new star in the cosmos. This protostar is formed from clouds of gas and dust that can only be seen in infrared light by the JWST. At the center of the hourglass image is a protoplanetary disk that is the material being pulled into the new star. It may eventually also form planets similar to our own solar system.
