CHRISSIE ~ GIBSON GIRL ~ The New Woman ~ Compact Mirror
- from our Affiliates
This delightful compact mirror is one of the Gibson girls. The illustrator was Howard Chandler Christy (1873 - 1952). Gibson girls depicted what American writers of the time considered to be the "New Woman" - vibrant and feminine. A Gibson girl pursued a higher education, romance and marriage, physical well-being and independence. Charles Dana Gibson, who created the "Gibson Girl" was generally tall with a perfect face, slim-waisted, but voluptuous. She radiated physical grace and self-confidence. She was Gibson's ideal of the white, middle-class American woman!
