This design features the state flag of Minnesota, which is a state in the Upper Midwest, Great Lakes and northern regions of the United States. Minnesota was admitted as the 32nd U.S. state on May 11, 1858, created from the eastern half of the Minnesota Territory. The state has many lakes, and is known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes"; it is also known as "North Star State", the "Gopher State", the "Agate State", "True North" and the "State of Hockey". Its official motto is "L'Étoile du Nord" (French for "The Star of the North"). The capital of Minnesota is Saint Paul, whereas its largest city is Minneapolis. The state flag contains a modified version of the seal of Minnesota on a light blue background.
