This design features the flag of Montreal (named Montréal in French), which is the most populous city in the Canadian province of Quebec. Montreal is also the second most populous city in the whole of Canada. It is named after Mount Royal, the triple-peaked hill in the heart of the city. However, the city was founded in 1642 as Ville-Marie, meaning "City of Mary". The city is centred on the Island of Montreal and a few much smaller peripheral islands, the largest of which is Île Bizard. Montreal is located around 120 miles east of the national capital Ottawa, and 160 miles south-west of the provincial capital, Quebec City.
