This design features the logo for the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, which has become a universally recognized symbol for peace around the world. The symbol was first designed by Gerald Holtom in 1958, but it is now part of the Unicode character set and is therefore within the public domain. The symbol is based on the flag semaphore for the letters "N" and "D". It also became widely associated with the 1960s counterculture.
